La Casa D’Abaix, A Proposition For Travelers.

La Casa de Baix, the house down the hill, was born as a parallel project to La Cerverina d'Art, the art gallery on the Carrer Major of Cervera that for more than ten years has been presenting and offering small artistic propositions to the locals and visitors of this mediaeval town in the very center of Catalonia, in the region of La Segarra.

  

The Cerverina d'Art has been offering accommodation to works by very diverse artists; all of them have visited Cervera and have been interested in the history, the architecture, the landscape, the smell and the colors of this land, La Segarra. The visits and opinions of these visionaries of the one’s inside made us understand that, in the same way that we offer accommodation to the works, we could also offer accommodation to their authors, as well as to everyone who is interested in this town, in its stones and shadows so rich in history.

So comes out La Casa de Baix proposition. We offer the best of us to the traveler who stops in the town of Cervera with the intention of knowing and seeing more. Since in Cervera there are many secrets to discover: the Alley of the Witches, the views of the Old Cemetery, the shadows of La Farinera, sharpened like needles, the shy churches that hide behind the corners, the footprint of the Devil in Santa Maria, among other places. Besides, Cervera is located in the middle of La Segarra's Route of the Castles (http://www.turismesegarra.com/castells.asp), which includes several places such as Les Pallargues, Florejacs, Montcortès, L’Aranyó, Castellmeià, Concabella or the Arab medina of Montfalcó Murallat.

The Segarra is a land of castles. It was a border territory when the Christian world started the "Reconquest" of the territories occupied by an administration of Arab origins. This is the reason why there are there so many villages and towns with watchtowers and fortifications. The region preserves that mediaeval structure and from La Casa d’abaix we wanted to maintain this standard. In this way, with this learned philosophy, we carried out the conversion of the house with the idea of preserving the spirit and structure of the building, while being responsible about the environment, using recycled, local or environment-friendly materials. A very necessary bet in these times.
